Every room has exactly one status at any moment. Reading statuses correctly is the foundation for the front desk and housekeeping alike.
Most changes are automatic side-effects of front-desk actions:
Room status guards the staff side only — the reservation form, and the Transfer Room picker, which offers just available and clean rooms. The public booking page sells on dates alone — it will happily sell a room you marked out of order, because nothing on that page reads room status. After you block a room, watch for online arrivals landing on it and move the guest with Transfer Room.
There is no delete button, on purpose — a room number is stamped on every past reservation, folio and report. Retire a room you no longer sell by setting it Out of Order and leaving it there. New rooms can only be created as Available, Maintenance or Out of Order; the housekeeping statuses are earned in service.
The Room Rack (Front Desk group) shows all rooms as a floor-by-floor grid with the guest and arrival info on each card — the fastest way to see the whole hotel at a glance.
